Jimmy Wayne Johnson, age 78, of Pineville, Kentucky, rested peacefully in the hands of God on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, surrounded in love by his family and friends at Middlesboro ARH Hospital. Jimmy was one of six children belonging to Henry and Bertha Johnson. He came into the world on June 8, 1947. Jim was a lifelong resident of Bell County, Kentucky, and called Straight Creek his home.
Jim Wayne was a member of Old Straight Creek Baptist Church. He was a humble man who led a simple life. He enjoyed many things throughout his life, like quiet mornings with his coffee while watching his shows and nights reading his Bible. He liked to be outdoors, whether it was tending to his vegetable garden or his flower garden. He had a passion for his hummingbirds and was known to have many that returned year after year. He loved his family and friends and kept a weekly routine of calling to check on them. He served as the Bellringer in his church and took great pride in doing work for the Lord or being involved in his Church, but Jim’s love for helping care for his granddaughter came only second to his love and faith in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Bertha Johnson; and his siblings, Dexter and Joyce Brandenburg, Charlie and Jeanie Brandenburg, Barbara Faye and Billy Taylor, and Tommy and Anne Johnson.
Jim Wayne is survived by his daughters, often calling them his Pride and Joy, Jenny Hurst and Charlene and Randall Walker; his four grandchildren, MaKayla and Skyler Shipley, Casey Hurst, Chase Walker, and Blaine Walker; his sister, Marie and David Cavin; nieces and nephews, Penny and Allen Smith, Tommy Johnson, Angie Caldwell, Kathy Patterson, David Leon Cavin, and Dexter Brandenburg; special friends, Louise Elliott and Vickie and Ronnie Washam; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be at 7:00 PM on Monday, May 18, 2026, at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with Preacher James Ward presiding. Music will be provided by Louise Elliott and Darrell Lowe. Family and friends will meet at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home to leave in procession for burial at 11:00 AM at the Farley Cemetery in Himyar. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Carnes, Eli Christopher, and TR Christopher. Honorary pallbearers will be Randall Walker, Allen Smith, Chase Walker, Blaine Walker, and Skyler Shipley.
On May 13, 2026, at the hour of 10:45 PM, our Daddy put it in the Lord’s hands, and that is where he remains. The family would like to send a special Thanks to all the healthcare workers who took the time to get to know and love on our Daddy, you made his journey easier. We would also like to Thank the many people who have prayed, loved, supported, and have told beautiful stories about our Dad. He loved you all.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating to a local church, small business, charity, St. Jude’s Hospital, or the Tennessee School for the Deaf.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 4:00 PM until the funeral hour at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home in Pineville, which is honored to serve the Johnson Family.
