A Celebration of life for Mr. Jimmy Wayne Collett, will be held on Friday, November 4, 2022, 2pm, at the Arjay Pentecostal Church. Visitation is now open until the funeral hour at the church located on Highway 66 in Arjay.
Jimmy Wayne was born in Wiser Branch, Arjay, Kentucky, at his parents’ home on May 11, 1963. He lived 59 years, 5 months, and 22 days. His Christian faith became sight on November 1, 2022. “Gosh darn it honey” was surely his words, as his eyes locked onto that city not made with hands, that place called Heaven.
His parents were PL and Mollie North Collett. Jimmy Wayne had four brothers and two sisters. Ford, Donald, LP, Roger, Dorothy and Linda. Jimmy loved “his people”, and while his life and raising was much different than the experience of today’s young people, he cherished his upbringing and recalled fondly his life, family, friends, church and the place he called home.
Jimmy Wayne was a simple man; he wasn’t complicated and he had a heart of gold.
He loved to laugh, have fun, hang out with family and friends, eat a good hamburger and onion rings. A trip through the mountains on a 4-wheeler, was just perfect. A ride over to Stinking Creek was a part of his life’s routine that he enjoyed thoroughly.
Jimmy Wayne made his immediate family life with the late Brenda Smith. He loved his family. His daughters, Kayla Johnson, Amanda Jones, and Samantha Smith. His son, Shawn and while Nathan Smith was a grandson, he and Brenda raised and loved Nathan as their son.
Grandchildren include Cameron, Kaitlyn and Hailey Logan, Dominique and Keyanna Mercer, Jayce Rumor, Amyiah Johnson, and Shawn Collett.
A happy smile was a most common sight on his face. Not that he didn't get aggravated or could be frustrated. He could and did, yet Jimmy Wayne had a forgiving heart. He never held a grudge and he tried to always do the right thing. His best description, he was a sweet man who appreciated a friend, a good story, listening to his scanner to know what’s going on and talking about Jesus. He believed in prayer. He would always say, “God’s got this” as he would raise his hands to pray and Jimmy Wayne was correct. God did and does.
His Celebration of Life Service will be led by his grade school friend, Rev. Tim H. Mills. He will be laid to rest beside his brother, sister and niece in the Collett Cemetery on Farmington Lane in Stinking Creek, Knox County, Kentucky. A meal will be served at one of his favorite places to visit and hang out. Family and friends are all invited after services are completed.
Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Pineville is honored to serve the Collett Family. Light a candle of remembrance and sign the guest register at www.arnettsteele.com.
