Harrogate, Tennessee

Jimmy Weslie Brooks, age 77, was born in Harrogate, TN on June 2, 1944 and passed away February 14, 2022 at his home. He was saved at an early age and was a member of Poplar Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Jimmy served in the Vietnam War from 1968 until 1972 as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. During his tour of duty, he received the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, Good Conduct Medal and a Rifle Marksmanship Badge.

He was a carpenter for many years and had many other skills which included mechanic work and welding. He was a kind and generous person and was always there to help when anyone needed him. Jimmy was also a caregiver for his grandmother Maudie and mother Naomi for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Weslie Brooks and Arthur & Naomi Dean of Harrogate, TN; one brother, Leon Dean; one sister, Eileen Dean Turner; sister-in-law, Phyllis Brooks; Brother-in-law, Russell Good and one nephew, Kelvin Brooks; grandparents, Lonnie and Maude Cavins, Leslie and America Brooks.

He is survived by two brothers, Thomas Brooks, Jerry (Cathy) Dean of Harrogate, TN; two sisters, Cherri (Johnny) Johnson of Tazewell, TN, Lisa (Steve) Baker of Ewing, VA. Nephews, Tommy Brooks, Steve Turner, Rick Turner, Eric Good, James Dean and Jared Johnson. Nieces, Penny Johnson, Jessica Edwards and Ashley Harris. He is also survived by several great nieces, great nephews and a host of many other friends.

Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 12 noon in th Cosby-Poplar Grove Cemetery with Rev. Eric Good and Rev. David Cosby officiating. Music will be provided by The Poplar Grove Church Singers. Military honors will be provided by Tri-County Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers: Rick Turner, Josh Brooks, Steve Turner, Aaron McDonald, Tommy Brooks, Joe Harris, Randy Brock ad Dean Turner. Honorary pallbearers: Squeak Estep and Dennis Brooks
