Jerry Edward Parker, (aka: Moe and Mountain Man #2), died peacefully on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 in Knoxville, Tennessee at the age of 59, after fighting a long battle with severe diabetes and cardiac failure. He was born on January 22, 1958 in Kenton, Kentucky and was a son of the late David Eugene and Guyla Lambert Parker.
Jerry was a 1977 graduate of Claiborne County High School and had worked in manufacturing and building trades for most of his life, including positions with Giles Inc. and Black Diamond. He also worked seasonally with tobacco farming and harvests. He was also a “jack of all trades” who could hang a door, lay brick to perfection, frame and dry-wall rooms, frame and lay concrete, dig a septic and install a breaker box with precision! Jerry resided in Tazewell, TN for most of his life but more recently had lived in Morristown and Maynardville, TN.
Mr. Parker is survived by his daughters, Kimberly Terry and husband, Phillip II, and Amy Parker; five grandchildren, Raven Coffman, Tayanna Coffman, Andrew Banks, Hunter Terry and Brandon Sams; siblings, Nadean Peace, Marie Strahan, David Parker, Bard Parker, Roxie Williams, and Michael Parker; wife, Mary Parker; and a loving extended family of in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Jerry’s Daughters remember him as a hard worker, and a kind and generous mountain of a man, who was always there with a loving hug and a song, sometimes by Elvis or Hank Williams. All who knew him will say he was generous to a fault, a truly happy and good-hearted fellow who loved music, cowboy movies and fishing, fishing and fishing! And, he never met a stranger.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, October 14, at Reece Funeral home with Rev. Darrell Williams. Burial will follow in the Bailey Family Cemetery in Ewing. Pallbearers will be Phil Terry II, Randy Gilbert, David Sweet, Johnny Williams, Lucas Bailey and Austin Murray. A special thank you from the family is extended to the amazing 7th floor nursing and hospital staff, and his doctors at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville, for their dedication and compassionate care.
A reception for family and friends to gather in fellowship will be held after the services at the Vanhuss Grove Church in Rose Hill, VA. The family will receive friends prior to the services on Saturday from 12 until 2 PM at the Reece Funeral Home and Valley Chapel in Harrogate, which is honored to be serving the Parker Family.
