Jerry Wayne Lane

Jerry Wayne Lane, 70 of New Tazewell, passed from this life into the next on Friday, September 4, 2026, at his home. He was born in Speedwell on August 19, 2026, a son of the late Albert Newton and Elsie Cleo McNew Lane. Jerry liked to spend his time learning about the history of his family and sharing the genealogy and stories he found with those who would listen. He was an avid University of Tennessee Vols and Atlanta Braves fan. Jerry was a member of the Pump Hollow Missionary Baptist Church and had been a truck driver.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James “Jim” Lane and wife, Janet of LaFollette, Tennessee; brother, Jesse Lane of Middlesboro, Kentucky; brother-in-law, Robert “Bob” Daniels of Paintsville, Kentucky; sister, Lillie Evans and husband, Charles of Ypsilanti, Michigan; brother, Albert Lee Lane of Speedwell, Tennessee; sister-in-law, Brenda Lane of LaFollette, Tennessee; and sister, Janice Hurst of Speedwell, Tennessee.

Jerry is survived by his sister, Ruby Danies of Avon, Indiana; sister-in-law, Donnie Lane of Middlesboro, Kentucky; brother, Clyde Lane of LaFollette, Tennessee; sister, Mary Lundstrom and husband, Cliff of Alpharetta, Georgia; brother, Charles Lane of Speedwell; sister, Anne Farmer and husband, Ken of North Tazewell, Virginia; brother-in-law, Roger Hurst, Sr. of Speedwell, Tennessee; sister, Tammy Buttery and husband Ernie of Ewing, Virginia; special friend, Kathy Lambert; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be at 7:00 PM on Monday, September 7, 2026, at Arnett & Steele Valley Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Alzheimer's Association or to the American Kidney Foundation.

Family and friends will meet at 10:30 AM on Tuesday at Arnett & Steele Valley Chapel to go in procession to the Lane Family Cemetery in Speedwell for graveside services at 11:00 AM. Pallbearers will be his nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 5:00 PM until the funeral hour at Arnett & Steele Valley Chapel in Harrogate, which is honored to serve the Lane Family.
