J.C. Mason

J.C. Mason, 76, of Pineville went home to be the Lord on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at the Middlesboro ARH Hospital. He was born in Ferndale, Kentucky on July 22, 1938, a son of Harvey and Mary Cook Mason, he was raised by his grandparents, John and Ina Coots, of Dorton Branch. In 1956, J.C. joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country as a Master Air Craft Mechanic in the U.S. Navy serving three tours aboard Aircraft Carriers to Vietnam, then retiring in 1976. After retiring, he went to work in 1977 at Middlesboro Community Based Treatment Center where he worked for 13 years before transferring to Social Services in Pineville, finally retiring in 1998. He was honored as a Kentucky Colonel in 2008. In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by brother, Arlen Mason. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Joyce Baker Mason; daughters, Teresa Ralston (Smokey), Sheila Graves (Travis), son, Michael Mason (Becky), grandchildren, Shaun Turner, Ryan Turner; Brittany Ralston, Jordan Graves, Todd Graves; Anthony Graves; Stephanie Graves; Shanda Caudill and Dalton Mason; nine grandchildren; sisters, Sylvia Carroll and Faye Gibson; brothers, Denver Mason, Doyle Mason and Jarvie Mason; special life-long friend, Chesley Singleton of Pensacola, FL and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Services will be at 2:00 PM Thursday at Arnett & Steele Funeral Chapel with Rev. Donnie Buell and Mr. Ules Baker. Music will be by Travis and Stephanie Graves. Burial will be in the Green Hills Memorial Gardens, Middlesboro. Military Honors will be by Harlan Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Jordan Graves, Shaun Turner, Ryan Turner, Dalton Mason, Travis Graves, Smokey Ralston and Chase Turner. The family receive friends on Thursday from 1 until the funeral hour at Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Pineville, which is honored to serve the Mason family.
