James Ewel Myers

James Ewel Myers, 78 of Speedwell, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Tennova North Hospital in Powell. He was born in Harlan on June 27, 1948, a son of the late John Glen Myers, Sr., and the late Frances Saylor Harrison. Ewel proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps in the 3/5 India Company from 1968 to 1969. He was wounded in action and received two Purple Hearts during his service to our country.  Ewel and Annabelle met in high school, fell in love, were married, and spent 59 years loving each other. Ewel retired from the United States Postal Service in Middlesboro and was the Pastor of the Midway Missionary Baptist Church in Clairfield.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Kathryn Myers Jenkins and Elizabeth Ann Myers; and sister-in-law, Rosa Gibson Stewart.

Ewel is survived by his loving wife, Annabelle "Ann" Myers; son, James Scott Myers; grandson, James Cody Myers; brother, John Glen Myers, Jr and wife, Vikki; sister, Joy Dean, and husband, Bill; sisters-in-law, Dessie Centers, Caffie Golden, and husband, Thomas; brother-in-law, Clyde Gibson, and wife, Diane; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family of James Ewel Myers would like to thank the nurses and physicians of Tennova North Hospital for their dedication and kindness, making one of the most difficult times of our lives more bearable.

Funeral services will be at 7:00 PM on Monday, September 28, 2026, at Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Bays presiding. Burial will be at 10:30 AM on Tuesday at Green Hills Memorial Gardens in Middlesboro, with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 5:00 PM until the funeral hour at Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Pineville, which is honored to serve the Myers Family.
