Of New Tazewell, TN

James Morris Barnette, age 64, of New Tazewell, was born September 22, 1944, and passed away at 8:05 AM on Friday, January 23, 2009, at his home after a long battle with cancer. He was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church until he was unable to attend because of his health. He was president of the Broken Spur Dance Club for about 14 years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 109 (nominated Legionnaire of the Year in 2007) and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was preceded in death by his father: Levi Herbert Barnette and Virgie Ellen Barnette, both of Tazewell, TN.

He is survived by his wife: Wilma Pierce Barnette; sons: James Andrew Barnette, Michael Edward Barnette and Bobby Wayne Barnette; grandsons: Joey Barnette of Harrogate (son of James Andrew and Julie Barnette), Joey Barnette of Kingsport (son of Bobby Wayne Barnette), James Levi Barnette and Jason Cumpston (sons of Bobby Wayne Barnette); step-daughters: Brandy (Willard) Ball of Tazewell, TN, and Claire (Jason) Weaver; step-grandsons: William Colby and Robert Jordan Weaver; granddaughter: Kaylie Grace Weaver; special friends: Glen Mullins, Mike Malone and many, many others.

In lieu of flowers, make donations to Pleasant View Baptist Church, 1190 Little Sycamore Rd, Tazewell, TN 37879. A memorial service will be held at 6 PM Sunday, February 1, 2009, at Pleasant View Baptist Church.
