Imogene Brittain Rose

August 10, 1928 — February 21, 2020

Middlesboro, KY

Bonnie Imogene Brittain Rose, age 91, passed away February 21, 2020, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  A longtime resident of Middlesboro, Kentucky, Imogene had been under medical care for several months prior to her death.  She was born in Shawanee, Tennessee, on August 10, 1928, the daughter of Ross Thomas Brittain and Ollie Kate Lynch Brittain.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Buford Larry Rose and son, Larry Michael Rose; brothers, Ross Edward and Richard Earl Brittain; sister Norma Brittain Hampton; and two nieces and one nephew.  Survivors include her sister, Barbara Brittain Baker and her brothers, Carl David and Jerry Lee Brittain, plus six nieces and seven nephews.  Other surviving family members include brothers-in-law Willis Hampton, Jr. and William H. Baker and sisters-in-law Esther Littrell Brittain and Ann Barrow Brittain.

Imogene graduated from Powell Valley High School and was recognized for both her academic and athletic abilities, where she was an outstanding basketball player.  She earned her undergraduate degree in three years at Lincoln Memorial University, and her Master’s degree in Business at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Her teaching over three decades was at Middlesboro High School.  Students honored her with the dedication of the 1954 edition of the student yearbook.  Students remained in touch with her long after they graduated from her classes.  She was a member of the national graduate honor society, Delta Pi Epsilon.

Imogene was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church and for many years was active in ministry of the church as a member of the hand bell choir.

She enjoyed bowling, antiquing, reading and gardening, with special interest in flowers and shrubs, and loved keeping the birds supplied with food and water.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 7th, at 4:00 pm, at Arnett & Steele Valley Chapel in Harrogate with burial to follow at Scott Cemetery in Shawanee.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00, Saturday, March 7, 2020 at the Arnett & Steele Valley Chapel in Harrogate.
