Hugh Howard Helton

Hugh Howard Helton, 81, of Harrogate, passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at his home. He was born in Stoney Fork on December 2, 1934, a son of the late Carter Helton and Polly Saylor Caldwell. Hugh was of the Baptist faith and had retired from General Motors, where he ran a sand dryer. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, was also a Shriner, and was a proud member of the United Auto Workers Local 653. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Presnell Helton; brothers and sisters, Ada Mae Lawson, Hazel Helton, J.C. Helton, Ida Brock and husband, Homer, Henry Forester and wife, Naomi, Jess Forester, Nancy 'Nannie' Bailey and Mary Boyer; nephews, Toni Brock, Donnie Wayne Forester, Hurley Forester and Hugh Brock. Survivors include his children, Deloris 'Dee' Mercier and husband, Duane of Auburn Hills, MI, Hugh Michael 'Mike' Helton of Stoney Fork and Meghan Gray of Knoxville, TN; step-daughter, Helen Victoria 'Vicki' Wagner of Pontiac, MI; grandchildren, Nathan Mercier, Connor Gray and Sydney Gray; brother-in-law, Eugene Lawson of Stoney Fork; nieces and nephews, Betty Forester Hull, Carl Forester, Forest Forester, Henry 'Jr.' Forester, Charles Ray Brock, Janis White, Earnest Brock, Gary Wayne Brock, Mona Lisa Holman, Barbara Plummer, Christine Fischer, Shirley Schael, Tim and Toni Lawson, Jerry Wayne Forester, Brenda Brock, Dorothy Jean Jones and Evelyn Jones; special friends, Mossie Evans and Carol Russell. Services will be Saturday at 3:00 PM at Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with Rev. Don Messer. Music will be by Faye Messer. Burial will follow in the Pineville Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Duane Mercier, Nathan Mercier, Connor Gray, Tim Lawson, Kenny Howard and Tim Howard.
