Homer Brock

December 23, 1919 — December 3, 2012

Our beloved father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather, and life long friend, Homer Brock, age 92 (would have been 93 Dec 23rd) passed away on December 3, 2012. He was the patriarch of our whole family, our protector and our provider. We are left with many wonderful memories and a deep ache in our hearts. He will be sorely missed ? not only by family, but by many members of the community in which he has lived all his life. Homer never drank or smoked even once. He always said ?I never drank, never smoked and never flirted with other women?. He kept up with his prayers and belief in God until the very end and never stopped being positive. He would always say ?I?m doing the best I can?. He was born December 23, 1919 in Kettle Island, KY to Chola and Bentley Brock, and was next to the oldest of 12 children. He outlived all of them except one sister, Sue, who is his youngest sister. He married Ida Forester on May 25, 1941. Homer and Ida spent 66 years of marriage together until her death in 2007 at age 82. Homer served in the U. S. Army and was stationed in Bryan, Texas, from 1941 to 1943. After an honorable discharge from the Army, he and Ida built their first home in Stoney Fork, where they raised their five children. Homer has lived in this house ever since. He worked for Ritter Lumber Company for 20 years and retired in 1965 at age 46. He continued to work another 20 years for various companies, including a job as a night watchman for coal companies in the Redbird, KY area. In addition to his parents, and his wife, Ida, he was preceded in death by a son, Hugh Brock and daughter-in-law, Janice Hatfield Brock, a grandson, Charles Brock, Jr., 6 brothers ? Virgil, Golden, Delbert, Elmer, J.B., Lester and 4 sisters ? Rosie, Hazel, Elva, Lillie Mae, and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Survivors include his children, one daughter, Janis and Tom White, Salt Lake City, UT, and 3 sons - Charles Ray Brock, Corbin, KY, Earnest and Diane Brock, Auburn, MI, Gary and Cheryl Brock, Stoney Fork, KY, his sister, Sue Osborne, seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren, sister in law Ada Mae and Gene Lawson, brother in law Hugh Helton, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
