Herman Brock

Herman Brock 82, of Corbin, Kentucky passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 15, 2020. He was born in Kettle Island, Kentucky on February 5, 1938, the son of the late Elmer Brock and Belva Slusher Brock. Herman was a graduate of Bell County High School. He was a devout Baptist, and very proud of his time driving the church bus at Mill Creek Baptist Church in his youth. Although he was not a coal miner, he worked a majority of his life in construction supporting the outside operations of mining. He told wonderful stories of his early time at the Scotia mine in Letcher County as well as many tales from Perry, Pike, Leslie, Harlan and Bell counties. He was an avid sports fan loving both basketball, football and golf equally. He enjoyed the beauty of the great outdoors, loved to travel, and was always up for a good adventure. Fishing and golf were his two personal passions and he spent many hours enjoying both. Family and friends were what Herman cherished most, especially his grandchildren. He was known for his unexpected ‘drop-in' visits and long conversations with friends and family. He liked to talk and never met a stranger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Rosetta Karrigan, Wanda Sholte, Patricia (Tish) Rapier, Cecil Brock and brothers Arnold (Ronnie) and Donald Brock. Herman will be cherished always by his wife, Joyce Brock of Corbin, KY; daughter, Tammy Gause and her husband Drew of Castle Pines, CO; son, Mark Brock and his wife Carolyn of London, KY; as well as his grandchildren, Jack Gause, Seattle, WA and Chelsea Gause, University of Colorado, Boulder. He is also survived by his sisters, June Tallent, Hickory NC; Sondra Pyles, Gaylord, MI and three brothers, Byon Brock and his wife Kay, Clarksville, TN; Elmer Jr. (Pee Wee) Brock, Harlan, KY and Herb Brock, Kettle Island, KY. He will be missed by a large host of nieces, nephews and friends scattered throughout the country. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 19, 2020 at the Brock Family Cemetery in Kettle Island. The family will receive friends Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home, Pineville which is honored to serve the Brock Family.
