Hager Combs

December 23, 1937 — February 5, 2024

Hager Combs, 86 of Pineville, passed away peacefully at his home with his family on Monday, February 5, 2024. He was born in Perry County on December 23, 1937, a son of the late Ransom and Mintie Campbell Combs. Hager was a believer in the Baptist Faith and was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church. He worked in the coal industry for 40+ years.

Hager loved his family. Nothing brought him more joy and pride than his grandchildren. He loved to attend their activities and was so proud of their accomplishments. He shared his love of sports and bluegrass music with them and taught them you’re never too old to get excited about Christmas and birthdays. He instilled in them the love of The Lord, as even in his darkest days, he praised The Lord and thanked him for his many blessings. His family will miss his humor, wit, and compassion.

Hager is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lola Joyce Combs; son and daughter-in-law, David Wayne and Leslie Combs; daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca Ann and Scott Baker; grandchildren, Cameron Wayne Combs and Macie Karoline Hendrickson; special nephews, Charles Campbell and Jackie Campbell; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with Rev. Paul W. Goodin and Rev. Mike Brooks presiding. Music will be provided by Cindy Goodin and Mark Hunter. Burial will follow at the Barbourville City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Scott Baker, Charles Campbell, Jackie Campbell, Alan Champlin, Shelton Evans, Weldon Kirkland, Andrew Schneider, and Mike Warren. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of the Ebenezer Baptist Church.

The family would like to thank Hospice of the Bluegrass for their care and compassion of Hager.
