Gladys Geneva Girtman

December 2, 1922 — March 9, 2015

Gladys Geneva Girtman, 92, passed away Monday, March 9, 2015 at Pineville Community Hospital. She was born December 2, 1922, at Blanche, KY. The only child of Zimmon Girtman and Louise Simpson Girtman. Survived by several cousins and many close friends. Special friends Jeree Perry and Martha Combs Woolum. After her family moved to Pineville, she attended Pineville Schools from which she graduated in 1940 and was also a graduate of Perry Business College. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pineville for many years, a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class, where she served as Treasurer. On the Home bound visitation committee and Secretary-Treasurer of the Women's Missionary Union. She had served on the Board of the Bell County Council on Literacy and on the Board of Directors where she was past president and vice president of the Sister Marjorie Learning Center, Pineville, KY. Other civic services were as Secretary of the Bell County Homemakers Council and Secretary of the Pineville Senior Homemakers Club. She was also active in the Pineville Breakfast Club and the women's Birthday group. When Jr. Woman's club was active she was secretary , treasurer and was also a member of the Pineville Woman's Club. Following graduation from business college she was employed by Cumberland Valley Rural Electric Cooperative, where she was stenographer and clerk. She later was a Secretary for the Kentucky Home Coal Company and Stewart Coal and Oil company, other employment was with the Delaware Powder Company where she served as Secretary-Treasurer and bookkeeper, from there she was employed by the Sigmon Enterprises, with the position of office of office manager and bookkeeper. She retired from work place to care for her mother who was in failing health. Following the demise of her mother, she became active in church and civic organizations. Gladys will be long remembered for her loyalty and faithfulness and mourned by many friends and associates. Graveside services were Wednesday at the Pineville Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Mark Elkins and Mr. Jay Steele. Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Pineville, which is honored to serve the Girtman Family.
