Gertrude ?Trudy? Parrott Russell, 85, passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at Pineville Community Hospital. She was born on October 30, 1923 at Chenoa, Kentucky, to Dr. John S. and Zella Lee Parrott. A graduate of Pineville High School, Georgetown College and the University of Kentucky, Trudy began her teaching career in 1941 in a one room school at Harmony. During World War II, she worked as a riveter at an airplane factory in San Diego, California. She taught in Georgetown, KY, Hollywood, FL and in Bell County at Lone Jack High School. She retired in 1987 after serving over 20 years as guidance counselor at Bell County High School. She was a lifelong member of East Jellico Baptist Church where she had served as a Sunday school teacher and president of the WMU at various times. She had been a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority, Pineville Woman?s Club, Upper Cumberland Counseling Association, Bell Co. Retired Teachers, Bell Co. Homemakers, 4-H Council and especially enjoyed her friends at the Tuesday Morning Breakfast Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Gene Russell Sr., brother, John S. Parrott Jr. and nephew and niece, Tommy Goodin and Jane Goodin. Survivors include her children and their spouses, Pamela & David Thompson of Pineville and Ralph Gene ?Butch? & Melony Russell of Georgetown; grandchildren and their spouses, Melissa & James Howard, Russell & Erin Thompson and Katie & Matt Riley; great-grandchildren, Anna, Laurel & Rachel Howard and Elijah & Sawyer Thompson; sister, Evylene Parrott Goodin; sister-in-law, Nelda Smith; nephews & nieces, John Parrott, III, Sharon Parrott, Sue Gambrel, Sheryl Davis, Sara Goodin, Sonya Akers, Paula K. Goodin, Coleen Davis and Dale Smith; special friends, Georgeann McGaffee, Fay Jones and Betty Foley and a host of other relatives and many friends.
