Gaynell Johnson, 93 of Pineville, passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2022, at the Barbourville Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was born in East Pineville on October 1, 1928, a daughter of the late Edward J. Johnson, the late Mossie Asher Johnson Simpson, and her late stepfather, Rev. James Simpson, Sr. who helped raise her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Charlie Johnson, Cassie Grubbs, Viola Price, and James Simpson, Jr.; and her brother-in-law, Hobert Hoskins. Gaynell is survived by her brothers, Joe Simpson and wife, Imogene, and Johnny Simpson and Roberta Croley; sister, Hazel Hoskins; her special niece, Jamie Reese; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the Barbourville Health & Rehabilitation Center for their loving care of Gaynell. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 18, 2022, at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Asher, Rev. Ronnie Hoskins, and Rev. Demus Couch presiding. Music will be provided by Larry Brock, Jordan Lee Saylor, Demus Couch, Lola Brock, and Nathan Frye. Burial will follow at the Simpson Family Cemetery in Jenson. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Pineville, which is honored to serve the Johnson Family.
