Fred Woods

December 1, 1920 — August 10, 2015

FRED WOODS, 94, of Bird Branch went Home on August 10, 2015. He was born December 1, 1920, at Wasioto, KY to Charles and Sadie Partin Woods. He was a lifelong resident of Bell County and a graduate of Bell County High School. He was born again, in June, 1934 at the age of 14 and began teaching a Sunday School class two weeks later and continued until a few months prior to his death. He was ordained a deacon on March 3, 1946, and was a charter member of East Pineville Missionary Baptist Church. He was a proud WWII Veteran, having entered service in 1942 with the US Army, serving as a Combat Engineer through Africa, Tunisia, Morocco, and Italy, where he earned a Bronze Star. Upon returning from the war, he married his high school sweetheart, Margie Wilder and joined his family's painting business. After his retirement from painting, he enjoyed serving as a docent at the Bell County Historical Museum. His life's joy was serving the Lord. If you met him, you didn't need to ask if he was a Christian. You knew it. He loved to tell stories to anyone who listened and was never at a loss of words on any occasion. He never refused dessert.
