Fred Whitehead, age 89, of Mooresville, Indiana died at 2:15 p.m. January 4, 2018 at Saint Francis Hospice House in Indianapolis, Indiana. Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m.. Monday, January 8, 2018 at Laurel Branch Pentecostal Church in Stoney Fork, Kentucky. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, January 9, 2018, with Bud Brock officiating. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Whitehead Family Cemetery. Fred was born on November 24, 1928 in High Splint, Kentucky, the son of Taylor and Cathern (Caldwell) Whitehead. He attended school at Salt Trace. He served as a Corporal in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 where he was a marksman during the Korean War. He worked for W.M. Ritter Lumber Company, Stoney Fork, Kentucky, from 1952 to 1958 and for Beveridge Paper Company, Indianapolis, Indiana, from 1959 until he retired in 1990. He and Bonnie Jean Helton were married on November 19, 1954 in Claiborne County Tennessee. Fred loved watching baseball and softball. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors. He loved spending time with family and friends and loved traveling to his home in Kentucky. He is survived by daughters Evelean Whitehead of Camby, Indiana , Darlene Whitehead-Lawson of Monrovia, Indiana and sons Ronnie Lee Whitehead of Indianapolis, Indiana and Gary Allen Whitehead of Beech Grove, Indiana. Grandchildren Robert (Jennifer) Woodward of Mooresville, Indiana, Kayci Lawson (Ryan) Coatney of Indianapolis, Indiana, Madison Lawson of Little Rock, Arkansas, Ronnie Whitehead of Corbin, Kentucky and Jacob Whitehead of Indianapolis, Indiana. Great-grandchildren Taylor Woodward of Mooresville, Indiana, Genesis Thompson of Indianapolis, Indiana and Emery Jean Coatney of Indianapolis, Indiana. Brothers and sisters Taylor (Cleo) Whitehead of Laporte , Indiana, Emanuel (Ronelle) Whitehead of Jenkins, Kentucky, Oma (James) Caldwell of Salt Trace, Kentucky, Rubin ( Opsie) Whitehead of Stoney Fork, Kentucky and Mary Ann Whitehead of Stoney Fork, Kentucky Also surviving are special friends Roy (Lois) Massey of Round Hill, Kentucky and Faye Helton of Harlan, Kentucky and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. His wife, parents, brothers John, Elmer and Hurley and sister Bonnie Lou and his in-laws, Robert and Jessie Helton and grand daughter, Lori Marie Woodward preceded him in death.
