Frances Akers, 85, of Pineville, passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at the Middleboro Appalachian Regional Hospital. She was born in Kettle Island, KY on June 22, 1920 a daughter of the late Lawrence and Matilda Wilder Selvey. She was a retired school teacher having taught in the Bell County School System and Pineville School System. She was a member of Church of God of Prophecy of Cary, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and Treasurer. She was also a member of the Sunshine Homemakers Group. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, James Paul Akers, two infant children, Joseph and Walter and brother, Herman Selvey. Survivors include her son, Darrell Akers and wife and caregiver, Sonya Akers; sister, Ann Bishop and her husband and special brother-in-law, Dean, Ypsilanti, Michigan; grandchildren, Jody Akers and Jamie Akers and husband, Al Jenkins, Coryton, TN; great-grandchildren, Madison Akers, Williamson, WVA; Jessica Smith and Will Smith, Coryton, TN; Jordan Akers and Alexis Akers, Harrogate, TN; sister-in-law, June Akers; friends, Sadie Robbins, Diane Cox, Margie Hubbard and members of her Sunshine Homemakers group and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
