Of Tazewell, TN

Fate Reece, age 93 of Tazewell passed away January 20, 2011 at Claiborne County Nursing Home. He was born February 23, 1917 in Knoxville, TN the son of the late Frank Reece and Myrtle (Livesay) Reece Oxford. He served his country as a Technical Sergeant with the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Reece served in Iceland, Scotland, England, Northern Ireland, France, Belgium and Germany. He was presented with the 3 Purple Hearts following wounds sustained in St.Bernard and Brest, France and Hurtgen Germany. Other awards he received included the Combat Infantryman Badge, the American, African and Middle Eastern service medals, a Bronze Star and a Gold Star and various other ribbons. Mr. Reece was a lifetime member of VFW and DAV of Cincinatti, OH. He was also a member of the 8th Division of the U.S. Army Platoon Sergeant. Prior to entering the service, he was employed by Time Container of Monroe, Michigan and retired after 43 years of service. On retirement, he made his home in Tazewell, TN. He was saved at an early age and joined Big Creek Baptist Church of Hancock County TN. After retirement and returning to Tennessee he attended New Bethel Tabernacle until his health gave way. He was a proud Veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by mother Myrtle Reece Oxford. Father Frank Reece. Brother Frank Reece Jr., Sister-in-law Juanita Reece. Brothers'- in-law; Paris Rowe and Lunie Pearson.

Survivors include his son, Paul & wife Kathy Reece and his grandson, Jonathan of Saline, Michigan. Sisters: Stella Rowe of New Tazewell, and Ora Pearson of Valdese, North Carolina and niece, Kathryn Love of New Tazewell.

Funeral service will be 2:30 Sunday January 23 at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Cosby officiating. Music will be provided by Stephanie Cole. The family will receive friends 1-2:30 PM. Graveside service to follow at Irish Memorial Gardens. Full military honors will be provided by The Tri-County Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers: James Love, Ronnie Reece, Jeremy Whitaker, James Reece, Scott Reece and Benton Estes.
