Evylene Parrott Goodin, 98, of Greasy Creek, passed away at her home on Friday, June 5, 2026 with her daughter, Paula, and niece, Sharon, by her side. Evylene was born in Chenoa, Ky. on November 10, 1927 to Dr. John S and Zella (Lee) Parrott. When Evylene was 5, the family moved to Greasy Creek where she spent most of the rest of her life. In 1946, she married Earnest P Goodin and they were blessed with three children: Thomas Earnest, Zella Jane and Paula Kaye.
A graduate of Pineville High School, Union College and Eastern Kentucky University, Evylene served the Bell County School District for 42 years as a teacher and administrator, retiring in 1995. After her retirement, she dedicated her life to caring for her daughter, Jane, until her death in 2006.
Evylene enjoyed stitching, gardening, reading, working jigsaw puzzles and lunch with friends. Her greatest joy was her extended family who looked to her for her love, support and prayers. She was an active member of East Jellico Baptist Church where she began playing piano at age 12 and continued playing for 85 years. She often arranged flowers from her garden for the sanctuary and produced the weekly church bulletin.
In addition to her parents, Evylene was proceeded in death by her husband, Earnest P Goodin, son, Thomas E Goodin and daughter, Zella Jane Goodin; brother and sister-in-law, John & Pauline Parrott and sister, Trudy Parrott Russell; nieces Sue Parrott Gambrel and Pamela Russell Thompson, nephew Ralph “Butch” Russell and great-niece, Darla Yankey.
She is survived by her daughter, Paula K Goodin; nieces and nephews: John & MaryAnn Parrott, Sharon Parrott, Danny Gambrel, Sheryl & Danny Davis, Sara & Delphus Goodin, Sonya Parrott, David Thompson and Meloney Russell; her East Jellico Baptist Church family; special friends Georgeann McGaffee & Loretta Bingham; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be conducted at 3 pm on Sunday, June 7, at East Jellico Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Partin presiding. Music will be provided by her special friend, Bruce Messer. Burial will follow in the Barbourville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her great nephews: Sean Davenport, John Davis, Dan Gambrel, Jason Gambrel, Dean Miracle, John Parrott IV and Russell Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of East Jellico Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1 until 3 pm at East Jellico Baptist Church. Memorial contributions are suggested to East Jellico Baptist Church PO Box 120 Ingram, KY 40955.
