Evelyn Claudia (Murray) Mcnew

Evelyn McNew, 78 of Speedwell, passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at the La Follette Medical Center.  She was born in Augsburg, Germany on September 27,1946, a daughter of the late James and Linda Murray.

Evelyn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.  She lived her life with faith.  She was a faithful member of La Follette Church of Christ, where she found joy in worship and fellowship.  She also found peace and happiness tending to flowers and garden, creating beauty in every season.  Her greatest joy came from her children and grandchildren, who knew her as a source of unconditional love, encouragement, and wisdom.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Tony Murray.

Evelyn is survived by her husband of 59 years, Wayne McNew; sons, Michael and Rhonda McNew, and Kenneth and Jenny McNew; grandchildren, Aaron and Brittany McNew, Taylor McNew, Patrick McNew, Mattie and David Whaley, and Em McNew; great-grandchild, Shooter Lee Owens; siblings, Linda Eaton, Patrick and Cam Murray, Debbie Mullins, Nina Shea, and Susie Odom; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at the Arnett & Steele Valley Chapel with Rev. Ben Shafer and Rev. Eric Bonner presiding.  Music will be provided by Grey Stooksbury.  Burial will follow at the McNew Cemetery in Speedwell with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 15, 2025, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Arnett & Steele Valley Chapel in Harrogate, which is honored to serve the McNew Family.
