Estil Lee (Ookie) Akers, 57 of Stoney Fork, passed away Sunday evening, March 19, 2023, at his residence after battling a long illness.
Ookie was born to the late Oscar and Lavonne Akers on February 25, 1966, in Pineville, Ky. He was a former mechanic of H&N Trucking. He enjoyed fishing, swimming, hickory chicken hunting, spending time with his family and ALL of his grandkids. He also loved to be in the mountains. Ookie was well known in the community and to know him was to love him, he always had a smile and would keep you laughing. He had a way with words, with “right-right and sonny” being some of his favorites
Besides his parents, his brother, Stevie Akers, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Akers (John); sisters, Brenda North (Angelo), Nancy Brock (Lou), Rose Miniard (Marty), and Lutishia Caldwell (James); brother, Virgil Akers (Cleda); special granddaughter, Laney Johnson; special grandson, KiRay Hensley; four stepdaughters that he loved as his own, Brittney Hensley, Demetria Dean, Melissa Hensley and Nina King; 9 other grandchildren; special friend, Gary Cooper; and he leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
In keeping Ookies wishes, a simple memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at 12:00 PM at the Laurel Branch Pentecostal Church. His ashes will be placed at the Honey Branch Cemetery in Warbranch, Ky.
