Emily Mae Howard

September 21, 1930 — May 25, 2022

Emily Mae Howard, daughter of the late Emory N. Waddell and Mayola Waddell Fuson, nee Givens, was born in Middlesboro, Kentucky on September 21, 1930. She graduated from Middlesboro High School and entered Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) where she met her husband-to-be, the late Jakie M. Howard. Emily was joined in the bond of Holy Wedlock with Jakie on April 18th, 1952. They had their first son, the late Stephen Van Howard in 1953. Emily graduated from LNU in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, but later decided to pursue a career in teaching. As Jakie’s military career took them to different locations, she and Jakie had two more children, Pamela and Joseph. When her husband was deployed to Korea and later Viet Nam, she returned to her family to Middlesboro and taught elementary school in Middlesboro, KY and Bell County. Later in Jakie’s military career, she frequently volunteered with the local base women’s clubs. Emily was a wonderful homemaker and cook, sewing many of her children’s clothes and baking wonderful meals, and especially delicious cakes, pies, and cookies for her family. She also developed an interest in drawing and painting and became an accomplished artist. After Jakie retired from the military, they made their home in Louisville, KY. In Louisville, Emily worked as a social worker and continued to raise her family. In 1986, upon the death of Eva Howard, Jakie’s mother, the couple returned to Cary, Kentucky to work the Howard Property. On their return to Cary, they joined Christ of the Cumberlands Lutheran Church in Harrogate, TN. This past Wednesday, May 25th, she was transferred to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, from this life to the Church Triumphant in heaven achieving the age of 91 years. She was predeceased by her parents, Emory N. Waddell and Mayola Waddell Fuson, her stepfather, Horton Fuson, loving husband, Jakie M. Howard, and her eldest son, Stephen V. Howard. Surviving and cherishing her memory are their daughter, Pamela O. Howard and son and daughter-in-law, Joseph M. and Pamela L. Howard and daughter-in-law, LaVon Howard; grandchildren, Nichole Howard, Blake Holsclaw, and Tonya Burnett; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Lainey Holsclaw, Noah and Jacob Houk.
