Emery Cleon Merz

MERZ, Emery Cleon, (99 yrs, 8 mos, 22 days) passed on February 23, 2008. Cleon was born in Ewing, KY on June 1, 1908, to parents Fred and Anna Merz. Beloved husband of the late Rosalie Mae (Snavely) Merz who preceded him in death in 1964. They were married on April 5, 1930, and were devoted and happily married for 34 years. He was also preceded in death by his one sister, Elizabeth Paulin, and three brothers, Ernest, Elmer and Eugene Merz. Cleon was a retired farmer and barber. He was a member of the Saltair Church of Christ, and served as a Sunday school teacher and elder at both the Felicity and Bethel Church of Christ over the years. He was an avid and talented artist, and enjoyed painting his entire life. Golfing and gardening were two other activities which he enjoyed and excelled at all throughout his life. Cleon is survived by his devoted and loving son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Bette (Doyle) Merz. He was a cherished and beloved grandfather to Beverly Brice, Patricia Merz, Richard and John Merz and Mary Risser, and he was an adoring great-grandfather to Emily and Katie Merz and Parker Risser. In addition, he was a beloved uncle to his nieces and nephews. Visitation and funeral arrangements by E.C. Nurre Funeral Home at 315 W. Plane Street, Bethel, OH. The family will receive friends on February 28, 2008 from 6 PM until time of service at 8 PM. The Reverend Bob Wickline will officiate. A private burial will take place in Gibson Station, VA.
