Elwood Sheridan Combs

Elwood Sheridan Combs, 90 of Pineville, Kentucky passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2020 at his home. He was born on December 21, 1929 in Harlan, Kentucky and was the son of the late Owen T. Sarah Asher Combs. Elwood served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, then received his master's degree from the University of Kentucky. He worked for many years as the Extension Agent for Agriculture in Bell County until his retirement and was a member of the First Christian Church in Pineville. Elwood also was a member of the Rotary Club and most recently served on the Soil Conservation Service Board and the Cumberland River Comprehensive Care Advisory Board. In addition to his parents, Elwood was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Mary Gladys Osborne Combs; sisters, Junia Lee Twyon and Roberta Montgomery; and brothers, Travis Combs, Elmer Combs and E.M. Combs. Survivors include his daughter, Debbie Combs Watts and her husband, Dr. John Michael of Corbin, KY; grandson, Samuel Combs Watts and fiancée, Katie Jo Dick; granddaughter, Erin Marie Watts; his very special friend of the last several years, Lois Taylor; caregivers, Joyce Cato, Wanda Branham, Amy Epley and Ashley Rucker; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. A private graveside funeral service will be held at the Resthaven Cemetery in Loyall, KY with Rev. Jerry Combs officiating. At the family's request, Arnett & Steele Funeral Home will announce a Memorial Service celebrating the life of Mr. Elwood Combs, once the current concerns for public health have subsided. The family suggests contributions in Elwood's memory be made to the First Christian Church, 201 Tennessee Avenue, Pineville, KY 40977.
