Elgan Jeffery Mayes

Elgan Jeffery Mayes (63) passed away on April 3, 2025, at Corbin Baptist Hospital, in Corbin, Kentucky, following a brief battle with a terminal illness.

Born on December 16, 1961, Jeff was a graduate of Middlesboro High School and Southeast Community College. He devoted twenty-two years to the maintenance department at Middlesboro Nursing and Rehabilitation, where his dedication and steady work ethic left a meaningful impact on both colleagues and residents.

Jeff found peace and fulfillment in the outdoors, especially through gardening. He also enjoyed exploring art and history, staying active through exercise, and spending time with his family. Attending concerts with his wife was among the many joys they shared together.

He was preceded in death by: his grandfather Henry Harrison Mayes; grandmother Mary Lilly (Minton) Mayes; grandfather Elgan Frank Garland; grandmother Myrtle Ethel (Hamlet) Garland; and father Clyde Asia Mayes.

Jeff is lovingly remembered by: his mother, Catherine Louise (Garland) Mayes; his wife, Lisa Ann (Good) Mayes; his daughter, Kristin Ashley (Mayes) Sellars; son-in-law William Neil Sellars; grandson Jonathan Jeffery Sellars, and a host of other family members and friends.

Jeff’s life was marked by quiet strength and unwavering commitment. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him. Services are private for the family per Jeff’s request.
