Dudley Thomas Pomeroy, 93, of Lexington passed away on Monday, January 24, 2011 at St. Joseph East Hospital, Lexington, KY. Born in Van Wert, Ohio on March 11, 1917, he was the son of Deloyd and Bessie Thomas Pomeroy. He had served as a Chaplain in the U.S. Army from 1943 until 1946 and was in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1946 until 1976 and retired from the service as a Colonel. Pomeroy was a 1939 graduate of Georgetown College and had graduated from Southern Seminary in 1942 with a Master of Theology Degree and in 1973 with a Doctorate of Pastoral Ministries Degree. He had served as a pastor at Mt. Freedom Church, Wilmore, KY, Piqua Baptist Church in Ohio from 1946 until 1952, Boiling Springs Baptist Church in South Carolina from 1952 until 1955, First Baptist Church, Newport, KY from 1955 until 1965 and College Park Baptist Church in Georgia from 1965 until 1976. Dr. Pomeroy served as a Professor of Pastoral Ministries at Clear Creek Baptist Bible College from 1976 until 1991. Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Jean Asher Pomeroy, daughter, Mary Pomeroy Dobranski and her husband, Jeff of Greendale, IN; son, Thomas E. Pomeroy and his wife, Jerri McDonald Pomeroy of Crestview, FL; grandson, Michael Dobranski of Morehead, KY; granddaughter, Michelle Pomeroy Moore of Pensacola, Fl; great-granddaughter, Jacqueline Marie Moore and sister, Lillian Pomeroy Bridenhager and a host of other relatives and friends.
