Doyal Ray Widener, 78, of Wallsend, passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at Physician's Regional Medical Center in Knoxville. He was born in Kettle Island on April 22, 1939, a son of the late Raymond Arthur and Thelma Howard Widener. He had worked for the Pineville City Street Department for many years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Doyal Widener, Jr.; a daughter, Sherrie Denise Widener; granddaughter, Seiarah Widener; great-grandson, Doyal Widener, III; brothers and sister, James E. Widener, Glenda Jackson and Curtis Widener. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Ann Warren Widener; children and their spouses, Veronica Gail and Bill Davidson, Terry Wayne and Kathy Widener, Kathy Lynn and Thurston North, Melissa Kay Widener, Jamie and Lillie Widener, Jason Curtis and Kristi Widener and Phyllis and Mark Scroggy; daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Caldwell Widener, grandchildren, Rebecca Wilder, Bobbi Tuttle, Kelly York, Amanda Widener, Jonathan Widener, Jonathon Slone, Timmy Slone, Courtney North, Olivia Scroggy, Austin Widener, Peyton Widener, Kendall Johnson, Brandon Johnson, Makenzie Widener, Morgan Widener, Madison Widener, McKenzie Widener; great-grandchildren; Emma Tuttle, Patrick Tuttle, Curtis Wilder, Anna Wilder, Ethan Wilder and Jackson Widener; sisters, Dora Akers, Betty Taylor, Laura Emery and Sue Bain; very special nephew, Wayne Edwards, who was like a son to Doyle and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Services will be at 2:00 PM Sunday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Polly. Music will be by Theda Polly and family. Burial will be in Pinelawn Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6 until 9 PM at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Pineville, which is honored to serve the Widener Family.
