Douglas Dwayne Mayes, 52 of Speedwell, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2025 at the Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. He was born on November 8, 1972 in LaFollette, Tennessee and was the son of the late Carl and Wilma Jean McCulley Mayes. Doug had been a welder for Olinger Trucking Company.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Tyler Edward Dwayne Mayes; step-mother, Della Williams Mayes; siblings, Judy McCulley and Claudine Miracle; nephew, Jesse Miracle; and special friend, Keith Bailey.

Survivors include his children, Taylor Mayes, and Douglas “DJ” Mayes and Genevia; bonus son, Michael Smith; grandchildren, Aden Nunn and Landen Mayes; siblings, Diann Rucker and Andy, John Miracle and Gail, Roy Lee Mayes, Gary Mayes, Marlene Sowder, and Caroline Evans and Roger; special nephews and niece, Jake Rucker, Rusty Loza, Dustin Miracle, Rebecca Smith and a host of many other nieces and nephews; special friends, Angie Smith, Lucinda Gordon, Beth Bailey, Steve Gibson and Jesse Gibson; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A private graveside funeral service was held at Flatwoods Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Thomas Cutcher. The Arnett & Steele Valley Chapel in Harrogate was honored to serve the Mayes family.
