Born in Lee County, Virginia, in the Bonny Blue mining camp. Her family settled in Shawanee, Tennessee, on a farm where she and her siblings were raised.
Graduated from Forge Ridge High School in 1956, then went north to Monroe, Michigan, like so many of her generation. In 1995, She moved to the Houston, Texas area to live with her daughter and her daughter's family, though she longed to return to east Tennessee.
Passed away on April 15, 2017, at 11 p.m., at home, surrounded by her daughter, son-in-law and granddaughters, in time to be present in heaven for Easter morning sunrise worship. Easter morning was her favorite time on earth, and she was certain to enjoy it even more with her Lord and Savior.
Survivors: only daughter, Hayley, and son-in-law, David Murray, and precious granddaughters, Lindsay and Madison of Katy, Texas; sister Beulah Nunn of Monroe, Mi; brother Howard Brooks and sister-in-law Merle, of Tazewell; nieces and nephews. Preceded by father and mother, Charlie and Harue Brooks, sister Pearl (Brooks) Martell and brothers Charles and Ray Brooks, nephew Wayne Nunn.
