Dennie C. Smith, 73 of Pineville, passed away on May 17, 2026, at the Baptist Health Hospital in Corbin surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Pineville on November 24, 1952, a son of the late James Cawood “JC” and Rosetta Carnes Smith. Dennie had been an Emergency Medical Technician for over 20 years in both Bell and Knox Counties. Dennie had great pride working as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant and Orthopedic Technician for 48 years with the Pineville Community Hospital. He was compassionate about working with and caring for his patients.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Garrett Sturgill.
Dennie is survived by his loving wife, Melissa Young Smith; two daughters; 4 grandchildren; his brothers and sister, whom he was very proud of, Ronnie and Audrey Smith, Bruce and Kayla Smith, John C. and Patricia Smith, and Gladys Sturgill; sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Young and Tammy Hatfield; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Hunter presiding. Music will be provided by Curt and Stephanie Eldridge. Burial will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday at the Bethel Cemetery in Jonesville, Virginia with Rev. John Sturgill presiding. The family will gather at 10:45 AM on Thursday to leave in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bruce Smith, John Smith, John Sturgill, Adam Smith, Lester Bingham, and Rick Broughton. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Wilder, Ray Frasure, Harvey Henderson, and his co-workers from the Pineville Community Hospital.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the Infusion Nursing Staff, Dr. White, the Doctors and Nursing Staff at Baptist Health, and Dr. Martha Combs-Woolum for their care and compassion.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4:00 PM until the funeral hour at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Pineville, which is honored to serve the Smith Family.
