Darrell E. “Groundhog” Chumley, 56, of Cumberland Gap, passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, in Tazewell, Tennessee. He was born in Tazewell on January 22, 1969, and was the son of the late James Chumley and Opal Carmen Chumley, who survives. Darrell loved farming, and was a board member for Farm Bureau and member of the Claiborne County Farmers CO-OP. He was also a member of the Fairview Baptist Church and of the Shawanee Masonic Lodge #546.

In addition to his father, Darrell was preceded in death by his beloved paternal grandparents, Woodrow and Sarah Chumley, and niece, Jessica Walters.

In addition to his mother, Opal, he is survived by his children, Sarah Chumley, Thomas Chumley and Trent Irvin; brother, Kenneth Chumley, honorary brother, Phillip Powers; and nephew, Dakota Chumley.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at the Arnett & Steele Valley Chapel from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM. A private burial will take place in the Chumley Cemetery in Harrogate. Pallbearers are P.J. Jeffers, Phillip Powers, Kevin Wheland, Cade Rogers, Jonah Brock, and Tyler Singleton. Honorary Pallbearers are Keith Cinnamon, Shane Evans, Jessie Tussing, and Bo Helton.

The Arnett & Steele Valley Chapel in Harrogate is honored to be serving the Chumley family.
