Charlie Akers

Charlie Akers, 79, of Stoney Fork, died on Friday, January 23, 2015 at the Tri-State Nursing and Rehab Center, Harrogate. He was born in Stoney Fork on May 12, 1935, a son of the late Otis and Merlie Wilson Akers. He had been an over-the-road truck driver. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Liza Akers; children, Lonnie Akers, Charles Akers, Tony Akers, Jimmy Akers and Sherry Lynn Akers; brothers, Billy Ray, Oscar and Rolin Akers. Survivors include his children, Karen Akers Kyle; Sharon Fugate, Juanna Bailey and Doug Akers, grandchildren, Felicia Akers, Kenny Ray Helton, Jennifer Akers, Whitney Akers, Natasha Akers, Mandy Akers, Brittany Akers, Holly Akers, Tony Logan Akers, Jessica Akers, Vanessa Akers, Tyler Bailey, Eric Flanary, Cody Akers, Holly Lynn Akers and Chasity Akers; ten great-grandchildren, former wife, Dora Mae Akers; brother and sisters, Bobby Akers, Carolyn Messer and Carrie Fisher and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Services will be Monday at 2:00 PM at Arnett & Steele Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Stoney Fork Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Monday from 12 until 2 PM at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Pineville, which is honored to serve the Akers Family.
