Charles Calloway

May 12, 1921 — July 21, 2008

Charles Edgar Calloway, Sr., went home to be with his Lord on Monday, July 21, 2008 at the Pineville Community Hospital. He was a Christian and a member and deacon of First Baptist Church of Pineville. He was also a Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Director and Treasurer at the First Baptist Church. Mr. Calloway attended Calloway Elementary School and graduated from Bell County High School. He received his B.S. Degree from Union College and his Masters Degree from George Peabody College, Nashville, TN. He was a World War II Navy veteran. Mr. Calloway was a teacher, coach, principal and administrator in the Bell County and Harlan County School Systems. He was also a Social Services Supervisor for Bell and Harlan Counties. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard T. and Alpha Calloway. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Viola Calloway, son, Charles Edgar Calloway, Jr. and wife, Donna; granddaughters, Sandra Moore and husband, Bill and Amy Bays and husband, Bryan; great-grandchildren, Bryanna Bays, Marisa Moore, Josiah Moore, Kaylee Moore and Callie Beth Bays; brother, Bill Calloway and wife, Jewell, sisters, Ettalene Scarborough and husband, Lloyd, Wilma Lay, Lois Crabtree and husband, Dorman, Doris Wilson and husband, Don and Muriel Harbin and husband, Bill; sister-in-law, Ruth Lloyd and husband, James; brothers-in-law, Ralph Saylor and Glenn Saylor and wife, Jean and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
