Carl Wesley Greer, 92, of Shawanee, TN passed away on August 1, 2008 at Claiborne County Hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Shawanee, born on January 28, 1916 a son of the late Prince A. Greer and Minnie McWilliams Greer. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by step-mother, Verda Richardson Greer; sister, Jessie Greer Nevils; an infant brother; brothers-in-law, James Nevils, John Yeary, Elmer Yeary, Herbert Yeary, Morris E. Gilpin and J.T. Brooks; sisters-in-law, Norma Brooks, Rowena Yeary and Bobbie Yeary.

He was of the Methodist faith. Carl retired from L&N Railroad Company with 35 years of service.

He was a veteran of WW II. He was wounded in action in France and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a prisoner of war in Germany for nine months.

Simply put, he was a good man who loved his family, worked hard and tried to do the right thing. He had a compassion for helpless animals and a love for the mountains, often saying, "She's a beautiful old world but we sure have mistreated her".

He leaves behind his family who loved him dearly,

wife of 61 years,

daughter and son-in-law,

Susan Greer West and Jackie Z. West;

brothers-in-law,

Ernest Yeary,

Austin Brooks and

Clay Cupp;

sisters-in-law,

Edna Gilpin,

Becky Yeary and

Ruby Brooks;

numerous nieces and nephews.

The family expressed deep appreciation to Becky Treadway, Gladys Rising, Jean Brewer and Kathy Perrin for their support during Carl's illness.

Funeral services will be 8:00 p.m. Sunday, August 3, 2008 at Reece Valley Chapel with Rev. Gary Miller officiating.

Graveside with military honors by Tri County Honor Guard will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at Scott Cemetery.

Pallbearers, Roger Gilpin, R.J. Gilpin, Mark Yeary, George Treadway, Kevin Napier and Paul Wilder.
