Carl Raymond Greer, age 93, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2009 at Estates of Oak Ridge. Mr. Greer was born October 25, 1915 in Shawanee, Tennessee to George Greer and Rosa Corum Greer. He moved his family to Michigan in 1950 when he began working for the former National Life Insurance Company. He and his wife moved back to Tennessee in 2003. Carl was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 58 years, Wilma Brittain Greer. His five brothers also preceded him in death. Mr. Greer is survived by his four children, Carol (Raymond) Husband of Oak Ridge, TN; Barbara (Bruce) Vigneault of Shepherd, MI; Debra (Paul) Hathaway of Grosse Pointe Woods, MI and son, Richard K. Greer of Hazel Park, MI. His eight grandchildren are, Paul M. Hathaway of Ann Arbor, MI; Christopher (Karen) Hathaway of Madison Heights, MI; Aaron Vigneault of Casper, WY; Rebecca Husband of Washington, D.C.; Matthew (Erin) Husband of Saint Louis, MO; Jessica Vigneault of Casper, WY; Michael Hathaway of Madison Heights, MI and Colin Hathaway of Kalamazoo, MI. Mr. Greer was a man who never met a stranger and one who loved life. On his 75th birthday, he announced that he wished for another 75 years. He will be deeply missed by his family. He had a lifelong love of music and was a self-taught musician, playing the piano, guitar, and mandolin. Several of his grandchildren inherited his musical talent. As a young man he would travel to Knoxville to sing and play on a local radio show. He also took great pride in his summer gardens, always looking forward to harvesting his "crop". Mr. Greer was a veteran of World War II, was a fifty year member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Hazel Park, Michigan where he was active in the choir. The family wishes to thank all the wonderful people who took care of Mr. Greer over the last several years and through his last illness. The staff of Estates of Oak Ridge could not have been more caring and loving, and they were considered a second family to him. The family also wants to thank Amedisys Hospice Services and Rest Assured Elder Care for their care along with the nurses of 2 West at Methodist Medical Center. Receiving of friends is planned for Monday, March 2nd at Weatherford Mortuary in Oak Ridge from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a short service to follow, officiated by Dr. Steve McDonald. Graveside service will be 11:00 am Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at Scott Cemetery with Rev. John Gibbons officiating.
