Boyd E. “Muscle Man” York, 83 of Arjay, passed away on Thursday, April 29, 2021, at the Middlesboro Nursing & Rehab Facility in Middlesboro. He was born in Arjay on October 21, 1937, a son of the late Cecil and Flora Rice York. He had been the Maintenance Boss for 47 years in the mines. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Marion Hope and Charity Gail. Boyd is survived by his wife of 42 years, Betty Cantrell York; children, Joni Gail York (Tammy Clements) of Savannah, Georgia, Diane (Allen) Harbin of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Nancy S. (Bernard) Cantrell of Gordon, Kentucky, and Angela (Roderick) York of Duluth, Georgia; stepdaughters, Alfreda and Melisa; adopted children, Clippy, Betty Jo, and Robert E.; brothers, William (Joanie) York of Knox, Indiana, and Kelly (Frida) York of Riceville, Tennessee; sisters, Bessie (Scott) Burke of Jonesboro, Indiana, and Julia (Clem) Kramer of Elizabeth, Indiana; adopted sister, Ernestine (Jeff) Gabbard of Morristown, Tennessee; and he leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends, all of whom will mourn his loss. Funeral services will be Sunday at 1:00 PM at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with Rev. Casey Potter and Rev. Tim Mills presiding. Burial follow at the Barbourville City Cemetery in Barbourville. Pallbearers will be David Caudill, PJ Pennington, Casey Jacob Potter, Jim Mills, Tim Mills, George Widener and Allen Harbin. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Pineville, which is honored to serve the York family.
