Boyd Goodin, III

Boyd “Gun Slanger” Goodin, III, 43 of Kettle Island, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2026, in Grundy, Virginia. He was born in Beverly on March 22, 1983, a son of Boyd Goodin, Jr. and Linda Gail Brock Helton. Boyd was a believer in the Pentecostal Faith and had been a member of Jenson Pentecostal Church and Crockett Pentecostal Church. He was a loving husband, father, son, grandson, brother, and uncle. He had been a Tanker Yanker for Jones Oil.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Charlie Brock, paternal grandparents, Boyd and Ruby Baker Goodin; and mother-in-law, Debbie Lawson.

Boyd is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Ashley Lawson Goodin; sons, Dalton Boyd Goodin (Hope Brock) and Shawn Conner Goodin; father, Boyd Goodin, Jr.; mother, Linda Gail Brock Helton; grandmother, Irene Saylor Brock; brothers, William and Nikki Goodin, Patrick Helton, and Josh Gambrel; sister, Kasey and John Brown; nieces and nephews, Shaylee Goodin, Rylee Goodin, Gannon Brown, Brody Brown, Madalynn Lawson, Gracelynn Lawson, and Ellie Caldwell; father and mother-in-law, Henry and Dolly Lawson; brother-in-law, Michael and Sabrina Lawson; sister-in-law, Tiffany and Cheston Caldwell; special friends, John Boy, Boogie, Sam, Frosty, Half Pint, Carbide, Bull, Smoothie, Jerrie, and Tag; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Jenson Pentecostal Church with Rev. Richard Asher, Rev. Michael Lawson, Rev. Ronnie Hoskins, Rev. Demus Couch, Rev. Dalton Payne, Rev. Donald Wilson, Rev. Marty Jackson, and Rev. Harold Collins presiding. Music will be provided by the Church Family. Burial will follow at the Charlie Brock Family Cemetery in Cow Fork. Pallbearers will be John Brown, Patrick Helton, Dalton Goodin, Shawn Goodin, William Goodin, Josh Gambrel, and Michael Lawson.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and from 8:00 PM until the funeral hour at the Jenson Pentecostal Church.
