Betty Smith Hatmaker, 78, of Kettle Island, passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Baptist Health Corbin. She was born in Kettle Island on March 7, 1940 a daughter of the late William Smith and Lillie Bennett Gambrel. She had worked at Pineville Community Hospital for 27 years as a nurse's aid. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Hatmaker; brothers and sisters, Dewey Buddy Gambrel, Agnes Elliot, Jessie Ward, Addie Rose, Sonny Gambrel and Donald Smith and a nephew, Donnald Gambrel. Survivors include a nephew whom she raised as a son, Anthony Gambrel, his wife, Virgie Warren-Gambrel and a score of great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be at 7:00 PM Friday, May 4, 2018 at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bobby Grubbs. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 until the service hour at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Center, which is honored to serve the family of Betty Hatmaker.
