Bernie Secrist
Bernie Secrist, age 67, of Harrogate, passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2006, at UT Hospital. He was born September 29, 1938 in Winona, West Virginia.
Bernie was originally from West Virginia, then moved to Washington, DC, where he was Vice President of Beltway Movers for 30 years and was ordained as a deacon at Suitland Baptist Church. He then followed the Lord to Harrogate, Tennessee to attend Clear Creek Baptist Bible College, which he graduated from in 1993. He was a member of Pump Springs Baptist Church and a Sunday school teacher for 16 years. He loved the Lord, the Washington Redskins and deer hunting.
He was a Marine during the Bay of Pigs invasion.
Preceded in death by his parents, his twin sister, and 3 brothers.
He is survived by his, wife, Sandra Snellings Secrist; their daughter, Stephanie Jones; 2 grandchildren, Emily and Jacob Jones; 3 brothers, Verlin, George and Gary Secrist; 2 honorary daughters, Mary Dickenson and Norma Stump; and a host of nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration service of Bernie's life 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 19, at Pump Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Miller, Rev. Emery Minton, and Rev. Ben Dishner officiating. Music by Judy Robertson and Ben Dishner. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial gifts be given to the "Just Imagine" building fund at Pump Springs Church, P.O. Box 2, Harrogate, TN 37752.
