Barbara Ruth Williams Hoskins, age 73, of Pineville, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 25, 2019, at Baptist Health Lexington. Born in Pineville, Kentucky, she was the youngest child of the late Rev. John and Patsy Ann Buell Williams. She was a born-again Christian and attended Moss Chapel Baptist Church where she was active in her younger years with many youth programs and Christmas plays. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Katherine Martin, Martha Beggs, and Mary Ada Williams, and her brothers, Jim, Cam, Woodrow, Kelly, Andrew, and Avil Williams. She was also preceded in death by her father - and mother-in-law, Hugh and Mabel Phipps Hoskins. Barbara was a longtime educator in the Bell County School System. She loved all children and worked diligently to encourage and inspire those whose lives she touched. She served as principal at Arjay Elementary and the Bell County Day Treatment/Recovery Center, was a teacher and basketball/track/Science Olympiad coach at Ward Chapel, Blackmont, and Page, and volunteered with 4-H, Academic Team, Science Olympiad, and other programs at Harmony and Right Fork. Barbara was an active supporter of the Bell County Cooperative Extension Service, where she was secretary of both the Agricultural Council and the Extension District Board. She loved crafting, and was very involved with the Homemaker and 4-H programs. Throughout her lifetime, Barbara spent much of her time visiting and caring for the elderly, sick, and those confined to nursing homes, sharing her love and desire to help others. Upon her retirement, Barbara enjoyed her Facebook messages and conversations with family, friends, and former students she was unable to regularly visit. She also enjoyed watching the birds from her window, raising her chickens, and caring for her many beautiful flowers. She leaves behind the following members of her family: her husband for over 56 years, Michael Hoskins, and two daughters, Susan Brown (Greg Marcum) and Shelia (Brian) Key of Pineville. She is also survived by one sister, Etta Rose Williams of Harrogate, Tennessee; two grandchildren, James Brown of Pineville and Kelly (Jordan) Bullins of Speedwell, Tennessee, and two great-grandchildren, Greyson and Raelynn Bullins, both of Speedwell. She is also survived by a host of other family members, friends, and former students whom she loved dearly. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, January 28, 2019, at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home Chapel in Pineville, Kentucky with the Rev. William Terrell Gibson presiding. Music will be provided by her nephews, Mitchell, Tim, Doug, and Steve Williams. Interment will follow at Green Hills Memorial Gardens in Middlesboro, Kentucky. Pallbearers will be James Brown, Brian Key, Greg Marcum, Jordan Bullins, Earl Beggs, and Tory Goodin. The family of Barbara R. Hoskins will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday, January 27, 2019, at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home.
