Barbara Jean Stewart, 87, of Knoxville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 3, 2026, in Corryton surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Harlan County on March 20, 1939, to Edith Daugherty, and was the daughter of Burley Brock. Barbara faithfully practiced the Pentecostal Holiness faith throughout her life. She retired as a housekeeper from the University of Tennessee. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Stewart; grandparents, Hobert and Chlora Daugherty; parents, Rev. John T. and Edith May Daugherty Jump; father, Burley Brock; and brother, Eugene Brock.
She is survived by her children: Kendall D. and Anne Stewart of Flint, Michigan; Benny D. Stewart of Knoxville, Tennessee; and E. Marlene and Tommy Nelson of Corryton, Tennessee.
Her grandchildren include Erik and Jessica Stewart of Swartz Creek, Michigan; Christopher and Mai Young of Fayetteville, Tennessee; Stephanie Stewart of Whitehall, Michigan; and Jonathan and Rachel Young of Powell, Tennessee.
Her great-grandchildren include Alex, Kam, and Ellie Young; Maggie Young; and Colin and Aubrey Stewart.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 7, 2026, at Arnett & Steele Funeral Home, with Rev. Mike Nichols officiating. Randy Hunley will serve as eulogist, including the reading of Barbara's obituary. Burial will follow at Alva Black Star Cemetery in Black Star.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until the funeral hour on Monday at Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Pineville.
Barbara will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends for the life she shared with them and the memories she leaves behind.
