Andrew J. Lay

Andrew J. Lay, 80, of New Tazewell, TN, passed away on April 9, 2017 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, Knoxville. He was born in Sharp's Chapel on April 24, 1936 a son of the late Pat and Virgie Bays Lay. He was a member of the Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and had been a farmer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers and sister, Ralph Lay, June Lay and Elvin Lay. Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Lucille Brooks Lay; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Lyn Graves; son, Frankie Lay; granddaughter, Destiny Graves; step-children, Milton and Margie Bailey, Judy and Steve Schweitzer, Larry and Dawn Bailey; step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Amy Lynch, Dulla Hamilton and Vontella Cole; sisters-in-law, Helen Holloway, Marjorie Brooks, Mable Goodin and Jean Harbin; brother-in-law and his wife, Tim and Kay Brooks and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday at the Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Frank Short. Music will be by the Reed Family. Burial will follow in the Pleasantville-Cook Cemetery in Tazewell. Pallbearers will be Charles Johnson, David Johnson, Derek Johnson, Peter Bailey, Trevor Bailey and Billie Moyers. Honorary pallbearer will be Terry Taylor. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 12 Noon until the funeral hour at the Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
