Amanda Jane Cawood Brooking

Janie Brooking passed away May 19, 2017 at the Wellmont Bristol Regional Hospital in Bristol, TN. Born September 3, 1944 in Pineville, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Murrell and Sophia Gilbert Cawood. She attended Brenau University and graduated from Tusculum College in Greeneville, Tennessee with a BS degree in Applied Organizational Management. She was retired from the Commonwealth of Kentucky Department of Social Services. Janie was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church and was active with the women of the church. She served as a deacon, elder, and was on the Session. She was very involved in her community. Organizations to which she belonged were Daughters of the American Revolution, Bell County Historical Society, Pineville Garden Club. She received numerous awards from the American Red Cross/FEMA and Family Court for her services. She was a director of the Mountain Laurel Festival and a recipient of the Carolyn Brooks awards. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Murrell Cawood. She is survived by son, Charles "Biff" Brooking of Petal, MS; daughter ,Virginia "Ginny" Cawood Jenkins of Kingsport, TN; grandchildren: Sarah Elizabeth Cawood of Kingsport, Stephen Clark Cawood of Middlesboro, Chase Jenkins of Kingsport; brother, Stephen Cawood and wife, Jennette of Pineville. nieces Candace Cawood Webb, Mandy Cawood Hickey, Beth Cawood Overman,and a host of great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at The First Presbyterian Church of Pineville Tuesday May 23, 2017 Visitation from 2:00-4:00 and funeral service to follow at 4:00. Burial immediately following service at Pineville Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Wade Bevins, Mitch Williams, Donnie Brock, Richard Earls, Jay Webb, Billy Overman, Stephen Cawood, Charlie Overman, Chase Jenkins, Buddy Bishop[, Kelby Thomas, Michael Roan. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Long, Don Price, Johnny Jones, Ronnie Redmond, Dr. Jerry Woolum, Dr. Kerry Woolum, Kirby Smith, Chuck Bishop, Baylor Fulton and Aubrey Bailey. The family of Janie would like to thank Dr. Martha Combs, special nurses, Joy Lewis and Danella Gambrel and the Acute Care ICU staff at the Bristol Region Medical Center.
