Alva Saylor

Alva Saylor, 73, of Pineville, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026, at his home. He was born in Pineville on September 26, 1952, a son of the late Corbet and Pauline Gambrel Saylor. Alva was a believer in the Pentecostal Faith and had been a member of Jenson Pentecostal Church. He had been a Coal Miner for Eastover Mining and had worked in maintenance at Southeast Community College.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jackie Eugene Saylor and Wendell Saylor.

Alva is survived by his wife, Lovena Duff Saylor; daughter, Tammy Burchett and husband, Doug; son, Alva Benjamin Saylor and wife, Tracy; five grandchildren, Sean Shelby, Justin Shelby, Rebekah Saylor, Jonathan Saylor, and Alexis Burchett; four great-grandchildren, Ella Rose Saylor, Grayson Shelby, Madison Shelby, and Jameson Shelby lifelong special friend, Brenda Rogers; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Asher and Rev. Darrell Lowe presiding. Burial will follow at the Saylor Family Cemetery in Jenson. Pallbearers will be Doug Burchett, Jonathan Saylor, Ben Saylor, and Justin Shelby.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Pineville, which is honored to serve the Saylor Family.
