Adam Brandon Smith died on Sunday, October 10, 2021 against his wishes. He was 38 years old and born in Pineville. He had a brief illness that he fatefully succumbed to quickly and left this world too soon. He did not die from covid. He would want you all to know that. He was vaccinated and wore a mask when out and encouraged others to do the same because he had a very rare autoimmune disorder. He was a whiz at computers and anything gadgety and could fix any device you brought him. With a cheery smile and brilliant mind, he always helped his friends fix their iPads, reset their wifi passwords, program their smart TVs and any other modern technological head scratcher that they couldn't figure out how to fix. When someone had a tech problem, they called Adam and he happily obliged. He loved his pet pig, Pepperton Pigsley. She had a fancy name because she was a city house-broken pig, not one of those plain ol' farm hogs. He would feed her gummy worms, ramen noodles and spaghetti with chopsticks and loved to rub her belly as she grunted with pleasure. He also had a dog he loved named Miley, a big white beast whose fur was always everywhere, but he didn't mind. His two cats, Chomp and Ollie, were his sidekicks and kept him close company during his final days. He loved all animals and would go out of his way to feed a stray cat or help any animal hungry, injured, or in need. He had a pet Cichlid fish named "Little Yeller" that lived in an aquarium next to the kitchen sink that he talked to every morning while preparing his iced coffee. Adam loved video games and played online with many people all over the world and formed lasting friendships with them. This was how he met his girlfriend of 8 years. He joined her alliance in a war game and the two struck up a random conversation that turned into love. Somewhere between killing off attackers of their castle and raiding small villages, he won her heart over by stealing all of her food and supplies and then taunting her to come back and get it. She realized he was a keeper and went to Kentucky and kidnapped him and brought him back to Bristol, Tennessee to live as her betrothed. He didn't struggle. He drove a little Toyota Rav-4 just so his girlfriend could feel tough driving his king cab Tundra. He had an infectious laugh and the best dimples ever when he smiled. He could hide things in his beard. He loved watching mysteries, Ghost Adventures, Ancient Aliens and any kind of fishing shows. Every year for his girlfriend's birthday, he would cook beef stroganoff, her favorite dish. On one Valentine's Day, he attempted to bake her a red velvet cake after calling his grandmother to get the recipe. The pig ended up eating most of it. He decided to stick to beef stroganoff. He enjoyed living close to South Holston Lake and fishing by the dam and on Oceola Island. His favorite lures were popeyes that his father powder-coated and painted himself. He cherished the fishing rods his father gave him and used them while fondly telling stories about his adventures with his dad when he was young. He loved his Grandmother Barbara so much he would cry when he talked to her. His loving heart was really that huge. He was such a gentle soul and a loving man. He looked forward to football season and was an avid fan. He always rooted for the underdog because he thought they needed the support. His favorite color was orange because he felt sorry for it when no one else in his elementary class picked it. Adam once won a $200 first place in a Halloween contest at a microbrewery and donated it back to the bar by buying everyone's tab. His winning costume was a "pig in a blanket" inspired by his pet pig. Adam may be gone too soon from this world, and we are grieving terribly, but some small part of us is resting easy knowing he is now free from his painfully broken vessel and is peaceful and at rest with our Heavenly Father. He could go anywhere and turn a stranger into a friend. He was loved so much by so many and he will be missed but never, ever forgotten. He is survived by his significant other, Kelly Hammel; mother and father, Carl and Sheila Asher Smith; sisters, Lisa Davenport and husband, Sean, and Carla Smith; loving grandmother, Barbara Ogan Jones; grandfather, Noah Asher; loving ever praying aunts, Sherry Patrick, Linda and Walter Brock, and Vicki Watts; uncle, Eddie Ray and Shirley Smith; nephews, Cody (Jessica) Davenport, Cory Davenport and Zarahan Latham. Funeral services for Adam will be at 4:00 PM on October 14, 2021 at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home in Pineville. Burial will follow at the Pinelawn Memorial Gardens in Pineville. Pallbearers will be Cody Davenport, Cory Davenport, Zarahan Latham, and Brady Patrick. In leiu of flowers, Adam would like for you to take a moment and be kind to one another or compliment a stranger and tell them that they look nice today. He always said that we don't know what battles people are fighting, so encourage them, be nice to them and it will go a long way in this world. He also would say "don't give me flowers unless you give me the roots, too." If you would still like to give something to show your condolences, please donate to your local animal rescue with a donation in his memory. Thank you. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 3:00 PM until the funeral hour at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Pineville, which is honored to serve the Smith Family.
