Janet Faye Redmond Barnes, 40 of Harrogate, TN passed away Monday, July 27, 2009 at her home after a battle with cancer. She was born on July 23, 1969 in Middlesboro, KY a daughter of Kenneth Doyle and Kathy Powers Redmond. Janet was a lifelong member of Bennett’s Fork Baptist Church but loved attending at Pump Springs Baptist Church and New Beginnings Baptist Church.
A 1987 graduate of Middlesboro High School, she attended South East Community College, Eastern Kentucky University and was a graduate of Western Kentucky University holding an Associate’s degree in Dental Hygiene. She was a member of the American Dental Association, the Second District of Tennessee Dental Association and was a volunteer for the Remote Area Medical Care at Lincoln Memorial University. She had been employed by Dr. Charles Thompson at Family Dental Care of Harrogate where she was the Dental Hygienist. She had also worked for Dr. Joe Boster and Dr. Brent Pursiful both in Middlesboro and Dr. Ronald Smith and Dr. Steven Brock both in Knoxville.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mary Edna Barnett and Lee Redmond and Paul and Fay King Powers; and an uncle, Elmer “Pete” Redmond.
Survivors include her parents, Kathy and Doyle Redmond of Middlesboro; her husband, Dewayne Barnes of Harrogate; step-children, Christopher and Rachel Barnes; step-grandson, Austin Barnes; grandmother, Cora Redmond of Middlesboro; sister, Jeannie Redmond White; nieces, Misti Faye Earle and James McGrath and Jessica White; great-niece, Emilee McGrath; step-niece Nikki Pennington; step nephew, Noah Barnes; mother-in-law, Margaret Barnes Herzog; father-in-law, James and Debbie Barnes; sister-in-law, Terri Barnes; brothers-in-law; J.B. White, Jr. and Troy Barnes; aunts and uncles, Maxine and Donnie Roark, Janice Redmond, Glenn and Helen Redmond, Carl and Carol Redmond, Ancil Redmond, and Charles Redmond all of Middlesboro, Bill and Sarah Powers of Powell, TN, Betty and Marvin Douglas of Jellico, TN, and Wayne and Kathy Powers of Norfolk, VA and a host of many loved special and close friends.

Funeral Information

A celebration of Janet’s life will be held at 7 PM Wednesday at the New Beginnings Baptist Church in Arthur, TN with Rev. Steven Brock and Rev. Donnie Bannister. At Janet’s request, the family has asked everyone to wear bright colors to the celebration. Honorary pallbearers are her cousins, Bruce, Carl, Adam, Randy, Mark, Benji and Brian Redmond, David, Skylar, and Aaron Redmond, Timmy and Danny Roark and Tim Douglas. Everyone is also welcome to join the family for a releasing of balloons and prayer service that will be held in the New Beginnings Baptist Church’s Prayer Garden on Thursday morning at sunrise.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5 until 7 PM at the New Beginnings Baptist Church, located just off of Highway 63 in Arthur, TN.
