John L. Boatright, Sr.

John L. Boatright, 84, of Miracle, passed away at his home on Tuesday, December 1, 2009. Born in Oaks, KY on September 5, 1925, he was the son of the late John Matt and Victoria Parker Boatright. He was a member of the Whipple Baptist Church and had been a coal miner. John was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II.

Survivors include his children and their spouses, John L., Jr. and Liz Boatright, Dallas and Ruth Boatright, Darrell and Elma Boatright, James and Sheila Boatright, Karen Sue and Jerry Lee, Marti Joe and Bert Gibbons, Lisa Boatright and Shonda and Rodney Gray, daughters-in-law, Michelle Boatright and Shelia Boatright, twenty grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren; sisters, Margie Johnson and Sarah Fine Southerland; special friends, Lucy Bailey and family and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Goldie Cox Boatright, sons, Charles and Claude Boatright, granddaughters, Amanda Joe Starcher and Olivia Gibbons; brothers and sister, Charlie, Joe, Starling and Bob Boatright and Mary Ellen Clay.

Funeral Information

Services will be at 2:00 PM Friday, December 4 at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with Rev. David Gibbons and Pastor Shawn Baker. Music will be by the Whipple Baptist Church Choir. Burial will be in the Balkan Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers. Military honors will be presented by the American Legion, Dewey Guy Post 14 of Middlesboro.

The family will receive friends after 6 PM Thursday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home, Pineville, which is honored to serve the Boatright family.
