Thomas Sewell "Sam" Wilson, 73, of Delaware, formerly of Pineville, passed away Monday, January 9, 2012 at Heartland Hospice. He was born in Calvin on January 2, 1939 a son of the late Mildred Jean Slusher Wilson and Thomas Sewell Wilson. He served his country in the Air Force from 1962-1966. He bought his first new car, a 1965 Ford Fairlane, which later became an important part of Sam's life. After leaving the Air Force Sam settled in Dover, Delaware where he opened "Sam's Body Shop" and ran Sam's Mobile Home Park. Sam was a longtime NASCAR fan known to be seen at the track with Richard Pettey. Sam enjoyed collecting and restoring 1965 Ford Fairlanes, winning multiple national awards for his work. He also founded and ran Fairlane Acres Speedway, a premier go-kart track for children and adults to go outside Dover, Delaware. Funeral InformationServices will be 2 PM Sunday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. William Boyd Bingham. Music will be by Thomassa Risner. Burial will follow in the Burchett Cemetery in Harrogate with family and friends serving as pallbearers. |
